Delta Academy

SM-LAC’s Delta Academy rolls out during the fall of each year and runs through May of the next year. This fantastic program is aimed at young girls in 6th-8th grade. The Academy was created out of an urgent sense that “bold action is needed to save our young females from the perils of academic failure, low self-esteem, and crippled futures”.

Delta Academy provides an opportunity for SM-LAC to enrich and enhance the education that our young teens receive in schools across the Metro Atlanta Area.

A primary goal of the program is to prepare young girls for full participation as leaders in the 21st Century. With that in mind our local chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., has designed a program built around the following themes: mathematics/science, self esteem, physical health/wellness, technology, leadership, community service, nontraditional careers and much more!

The program is scheduled to meet once per month. We have meeting facilities in Dekalb and Rockdale counties.

Please feel free to contact educationaldevelopment@smlacdst.org if you have any questions.

Delta GEMS

Delta GEMS was created to “catch the dreams” of African American adolescent girls aged 14-18. Delta GEMS provides the frame work to actualize those dreams through the performance of specific tasks that develop a “CAN DO” attitude. The goals for Delta GEMS are:

  • To instill the need to excel academically;
  • To provide tools that enable girls to sharpen and enhance their skills to achieve high levels of academic success;
  • To assist girls in proper goal setting and planning for their futures—high school and beyond; and
  • To create compassionate, caring, and community minded young women by actively involving them in service learning and community service opportunities.

The Delta GEMS framework is composed of five major components (Scholarship, Sisterhood, Show Me the Money, Service, and Infinitely Complete), forming a road map for college and career planning. Topics within the five major components are designed to provide interactive lessons and activities that provide opportunities for self-reflection and individual growth.

We look forward to building lifetime relationships and implementing exemplary programs. The Delta GEMS program is scheduled to meet once per month on the 1st or 2nd Saturday beginning in September, at a facility located in DeKalb and Rockdale Counties.

Please feel free to contact educationaldevelopment@smlacdst.org if you have any questions.

EMBODI

AFRICAN-AMERICAN MALES CONTINUE TO BE IN CRISIS! To “move the needle” on this issue, Delta Sigma Theta has created Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence (EMBODI). Through open dialogue and actionable recommendations, EMBODI will advance positive change.

EMBODI is aimed at young African American males ages 13-17. EMBODI was created out of an urgent sense that “bold action is needed to save our young males from the perils of academic failure, low self-esteem, and crippled futures”. Our program focuses on workshops to assist the young men reach their fullest potential educationally, socially, and emotionally. With that in mind, we’ve designed a program built around the following themes: self-esteem, physical health/wellness, technology, leadership, community service, non-traditional careers and much more!

Understanding that organized collective action can achieve greater positive impact, Delta Sigma Theta is proud to join numerous other service-oriented associations and individual advocates who are actively engaged in uplifting African-American males.
Please feel free to contact educationaldevelopment@smlacdst.org if you have any questions.
