Greetings Sorors and Friends,
It gives me great pleasure to
welcome you to the official award winning website for the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumnae Chapter (SM-LAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated! I am elated that you are taking the time to peruse our site in an effort to learn important information about our dynamic, dedicated, and distinguished chapter.
Since chartering on March 9, 1997, the energetic and progressive women of SM-LAC have worked tirelessly to organize and implement a robust suite of service initiatives that have impacted the community in positive ways. Currently, we sponsor two Delta Academy programs for middle school aged girls; an awesome college tour of Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs) for high school students; an exquisite Debutante & Ladies-In-Waiting Finishing Program for senior girls; and, an outstanding Delta GEMS Mentoring Program for high school females.
Additionally, we sponsor seminars and community programs such as Project SEE - the Science in Everyday Experience Program, Financial Empowerment Seminars, Community Health Fairs, Voter Registration Drives, and Social Action symposiums. Also, during the summer of 2007, we were blessed to share our love and good will with impoverished youth attending two schools in the cities of Rio De Janeiro and Salvador, Brazil.
Each year, SM-LAC presents exciting fundraising events such as the sophisticated Deltas After Dark soiree and the exhilarating All Alumni Step Show. We are also known for hosting "Art Burning" event during which original paintings are auctioned to raise money for scholarships and community enriching activities. Needless to say, we are extremely proud of the fact that we have been able to award more than $50,000 in scholarships over the last two years as the direct result of our efforts.
This biennium, we hope to "Ascend To New Heights" as we work to empower the community through our committed service. Specifically, we will expland our current program offerings to embrace new national initiatives that will focus on the physical, economic, and educational empowerment of the African American Community
In closing, SM-LAC is dedicated to improving the plight of women, youth, and other marginalized groups. However, we need your help to be effective. Your support is critical to the success of our efforts. We ask that you continue to help us effectuate positive social change by supporting our fundraising ventures and attending our public service events.
Yours in the stuggle to uplift and empower,
