President's Message
Greetings and Welcome to The Jewel of the Mountain!
Your interest in the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Alumnae Chapter (SM-LAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a clear message that the work our illustrious sisterhood performs within the community is making a positive impact. Since SM-LAC's chartering on March 9, 1997, we have committed ourselves to becoming an invaluable part of the community we serve.
That spirit of service originated with Delta Sigma Theta's twenty-two visionary Founders, and to this day, we are guided by that vision. Three hundred and sixty five days a year, our suite of initiatives empowers youth, adults, seniors, and marginalized groups. To highlight the issues that afflict our community and provide solutions for those problems, everything SM-LAC undertakes is firmly grounded in our Five-Point Program Thrust:
| Economic Development | Provide support for the underserved |
| Educational Development | Promote academic excellence and provide scholarships |
| International Awareness and Involvement | Encourage participation in addressing issues that affect women and children around the world |
| Physical and Mental Health | Increase knowledge of health issues and disease prevention knowledge |
| Political Awareness and Involvement | Educate and stimulate participation in establishing positive public policy |
Over the next two years and beyond, we intend to take our organization to another level by refining and expanding SM-LAC's program offerings; enhancing our partnerships with local businesses, community groups, and service-oriented organizations; actively collaborating with our sister chapters in the metropolitan Atlanta area; and partnering with local media to raise awareness and increase participation in our public service events. We strive to continuously build upon the legacy of sisterly, loving service that Delta's Founders exemplified.
Again, thank you for taking the time to visit with us – if only virtually! However, I do encourage you to take a closer look at SM-LAC achievements over the course of the year, attend our community events, and let us know how we are doing. With your support and goodwill, SM-LAC will successfully advance Delta Sigma Theta's 98-year history of collective action for the greater good!
Yours in sisterhood and service,
Toni H. Johnson
