We have truly had an exciting sororal year! We ended the
2006-07 year with a wonderful Grand Celebration during which our scholarship award winners were recognized and sorors received recognition for significant milestones and accomplishments.

Soror Deborah Toatley, May Week Chair, and her May Week 2007 committee for providing an outstanding
        May Week agenda.

Soror Debra Ragland, Courtesy Chair, and her dedicated team, for the wonderful Grand Celebration
        program and your untiring work during the year
.

Soror Arnea King-Cross, Hospitality Chair,and her gracious team, for providing us the most warm 
        hospitaliy service at Grand Celebration and after each
        chapter meeting. You and your team's dedication for
        this service is appreciated dearly.

Soror Susan McGhee and her darling dance students for providing the  dance recital at our Grand
        Celebration.  We LOVED the performance.

Soror Karen Davis, Scholarship Chair and her thorough applicant evaluation team for their outstanding
       selections.

Also, I am also happy to report that this sororal year, 2006-2007, SM-LAC awarded $32,600 in scholarships to students in our community. Additionally, we will be awarding $1, 500 to two schools for indigent children in Brazil. This will give us a year-end total of $34,100 in scholarships and financial   contributions!

The total break down of our award categories are as follows:
 

·         Debutuantes: $16,900,  

·         Chapter Scholarship Program: $14,700,    

·         Annual May Week Scholarship Award: $1,000, and

·        Humanitarian Aid Scholarships - Brazil: $1,500


Thanks to your diligent efforts, individually and collectively, we are truly making an impact in our community.  Please help now to spread the good word and reclaim inactive sorors to join us.  Remember that you are the "KEY" to our continued success!

It is only fitting that we extend "SPRING" Praises for the month of March 2007 to sorors who done an exemplary job of organizing and implementing chapter activities.

Sorors Shawn Evans-Mitchell, Chair-Political
Awareness and Involvement, Soror Ramunda Livingston, 
       Chair-Social Action, and Soror Lori Benton,
       Chair-International Awareness and Involvement, for your
       participation in the planning and implementation of the
       Metro-Atlanta initiative to raise awareness regarding the
       genocide occurring in the Darfur Region of Sudan, Africa.
 

Of special note...Soror Lori Benton, International Awareness and Involvement Chair, helped organize the SAVE Darfur March and Rally, which was held on
       Monday, March 19. The Rally was held on the front steps
       of the Georgia State Capitol and was the official closing of
       Delta Days at the State Capitol. The Rally was a Joint 
       Service  Project brought to us by the Metro Atlanta
       International Awareness and Involvement Chairs. Soror
       Benton played a major role in the success of this event
       by making arrangements for 40 outstanding students from
       the DeKalb School of the Arts (DeKalb County Schools) to
       participate in this event. These students chanted in
       harmony and they spoke passionately about how they plan
       to help Save Darfur.


Soror Donna King, Executive Chair of the Debutante Committee, and Debutante Committee, for an 
       exquisite cotillion! A record number of guest, (over 750) 
       were in attendance for the pristine affair! Every aspect
       was executed with the utmost care and attention to detail.
       Debutantes, Ladies-In-Waiting, Escorts, Souvenir journal,
       programs, program participants, decorations, music, the 
       WALTZ, debutante & LIW features, Debutante Hymn, meal,
       reception, and dancing afterwards was UTSTANDING! You
       
have truly solidified our reputation for hosting this
       beautiful, pristine event!


Soror Denise Davis, Educational Development Chair, and Soror Pam Butler, Black College Tour Sub-Committee 
       Chair, for making sure that the Black College Tour
       rolled off the MOUNTAIN as a financial success! 
       Forty-seven (47) students and 5 adults attended the
       tour! Congratulations goes to the committee and
       "Thank You" to all of the sorors who stepped up to the
       plate in an effort to give a student the gift of a lifetime
       access to higher education!


Soror Kimberly  Manning, Chair-Physical & Mental Health and the HYPED Physical & Mental Health Committee!
       Specifically, to Soror Frances Rucker-Bannister for her work
       on behalf of the Physical & Mental Health Committee in
       creating and facilitating the Woman and Girls HIV/AIDS
       Awareness Day program at First Iconium Baptist Church.
       Also, Soror  Kimberly Manning was one of the panelists,
       and did a great job speaking at the event. The event
       was a great success and we applaud Soror Bannister for
       she working hard to make this event a great success.

Soror Roberta Walker and the Economic Development 
         Committee for an outstanding Money Wise
         Workshop. Specifically, the Economic Development
         Committee conducted a financial planning
         workshop Tuesday, January 30th, coordinated by
         Soror Annetta Richardson and Soror Siddiqa Gibson.
 
         A series of speakers were available to  
         conduct workshop topics, which included long-term 
         financial investments and retirement, personal
         banking and how banks support the community. They
         also included speakers from Wachovia Bank.  In
         addition, Soror Siddiqa Gibson and Soror Winifred
         Sheppard conducted the "Money Wise   Kids" portion
         of the workshop. They kept the children entertained
         while teaching them the importance of knowing how
         to count money and how to save money for the futu
re.

Soror Donna King and the Debutante Committee for 
facilitating an excellent evening at the opera for our 
       Debutantes. Thanks to their efforts, many of the debs
       were provided an opportunity to experience opera
       for the first time. Additionally, we salute the
       Debutante committee because during the President’s
       Holiday weekend they traveled to Louisiana on 
       their Annual Debutante College Tour visiting
       Grambling University, Southern University, 
       Xavier University, Dillard University, Tulane University
       and Tuskegee University. 

I received several phone calls stating that the girls and guys look polished in their casual business attire and that they were courteous, focused, and orderly. "Thank You" for all that you have done to provide an uplifting experience for our debs.

Soror Pam Lee, Arts & Letters Chair, and the
sophisticated Arts & Letters Committee, for doing an
       exemplary job of organizing and executing the 
       second SM-LAC "Art Burning" at the 
       Tupac Amaru Shakur Center in Stone Mountain.

Soror Denise Davis, Educational Development Chair
and Soror J. B. Hilliard, Delta GEMS Subcommittee
       Chair,and the dedicated Sorors on the Educational 
       Development Committee for being consistent and on 
       point in organizing quality community service
       and mentoring experiences for our GEMS. You are
       impacting their lives in a powerful lasting way and
       we a grateful for your outstanding efforts.

         Lastly, but certainly not least...

It is my pleasure to also extend Red Roses of Praise,
Violets of Admiration, and Pearls of Pride, to our 
       Immediate Past President, Soror Beverly J. Harris for
       being successfully slated for the position of Southern
       Regional Director!  Soror Harris is now an official
       candidate for the high ranking position, and with our 
       prayers and God's help, she will be elected the
       22nd Southern Regional Director, this summer, in
       Chattanooga.

We salute you for your "Outstanding" work, Soror Harris!
You have made us proud. The Southern Region is READY
for your leadership...and WE, your chapter sorors, are ready
to give you our support!

Before we begin to focus on the second half of the sororal year, I want to complete an important task from the past. Accordingly, I want to extend Red Roses of Praise and Violets of Admiration upon the Sorors who helped to facilitate our November 2006 potluck, business fair, and defend our chapter's honor.

Soror Arnea King-Cross, Chair-Hospitality, and the hard working members of the Hospitality Committee. Your
       organization and attention to details helped to make our
       celebration a warm, memorable event.

Soror Roberta Walker, Chair-Economic Development, Soror Veronica Allen, Sub-Chair-Business Fair, and the other 
       members of the Economic Development Committee for
       organizing and overseeing the 2006 Business fair. Your
       efforts enabled us to learn about and support chapter
       sorors who are entrepreneurs.


Soror Ramunda Livingston, Chair-Social Action, and the dedicated members of the Social Action Committee for
       organizing the holiday food and gift basket donation effort.
       Thanks to your work, numerous families were blessed to
        receive food and gift items at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Soror Teri Thompson, Chair-Legal Review, and the resourceful sorors on the Legal Review Team Committee.
       Your advocacy has helped us to gain an even greater
level 
       of respect in the community that we serve.

During this season of Thanksgiving, I want to take this opportunity to say that I am truly "THANKFUL" for all of the blessings that have been bestowed upon us this year.  I am especially thankful for all of YOU my dedicated, DIVA sisters (who keep me on my toes).  Thanks for the love, commitment, and support!

2006 Thanksgiving  "RED ROSES" Congratulations go to...

Soror Pam Lee and the Arts & Letters Committee for
       facilitating successful bonding activities-pottery painting
       and book club.

Soror Simone Hand and the Collegiate Affairs Committee for developing an excellent chapter reclamation brochure
       targeting sorors who must make the transition from
       undergraduate to alumnae chapters.

Soror Donna King and the Debutante Committee for facilitating a wonderful Fall Fashion Show and 
       managing over 100 teens - Debutantes, Ladies In
       Waiting and escorts.

Soror Roberta Walker and the Economic Development Committee for facilitating needed empowerment 
       workshops-Internet Savvy, Internet Safe and Sisters
       in the Mix.

Soror Denise Davis and the Educational Development Committee for facilitating exemplary mentoring/service
       programs involving over one hundred seventy (170) 
       students in grades 6-12 with our Delta Academy,
       Delta GEMS and Black College Tour program.

Soror Karen Davis and the Scholarship Committee for organizing and presenting an informative workshop 
       to Black College Tour participates and the Delta GEMS
       participants.

Sorors Candi Arthur, Financial Projects Chair and   
Delta After Dark Co-chairs, Soror Monica Smith and
       Soror Zenna Farley,  for an outstanding job!
       Heartfelt 'THANKS' are also extended to all of the
       members of the DAD subcommittee who worked
       tirelessly to make sure that the event was well 
       executed.  
Thanks to this committee too for 
       organizing and executing  a successful Carole Joy 
       fall fundraising activity.

Soror Lori Benton and the International Awareness Committee for successfully organizing and the first
       SM-LAC trip to Brazil in June of 2007 with 34 sorors 
       and friends.

Soror Marilyn Hunter and the Recreation Committee for facilitating bonding by successfully organizing 
       two informal chapter activities at Martinis & Imax 
       and the Family Fun Center for Bowling.

Soror Ramunda Livingston and the Social Action Committee for successfully organizing and implementing community
       service initiatives - two voter registration drives, a
       emotional candle light vigil to end domestic violence,
       monthly birthday parties for residents of the Traditions
       Nursing Home, and distributing baskets to families in need.
