       2008-09 SM-LAC "Red Roses"

Please select the sororal year below to view
our 'PREVIOUS' Red Roses Report.

-------------------------------------------------------------

2005-06              2006-07             2007-08

-------------------------------------------------------------

I pray that your holiday was a memorable one and you are ready to close out the year!!!!!  In any event, last Sunday our Debutante Committee hosted one of the BEST “Fashionistas” or fashion shows ever!  It featured our 2008-2009 Debutantes, Ladies-In-Waiting and Escorts.   The theme for the show was “Debs Got Talent” and it was held at Shiloh High School in Snellville, GA.  For those of you who were unable to attend, you truly missed a treat because this year’s sow included Deb, Ladies -In-Waiting and Escort talent.  It also included a poetic tribute to our handsome, debonair, highly educated, 44th President of the United States of America, Mr. Barack Obama! In addition to providing great entertainment, the show was a SELL OUT!

It is for this reason that I ask you to join me in bestowing
Red Roses of Praise and Violets of Admiration on the following
sorors and committees that have successfully embraced the vision
and mission of our beloved sorority and chapter with enthusiasm and
         professionalism
.

Soror Rachel Ziegler, Executive Chair of the Debutante Committee and the diligent, hard working sorors on the SM-LAC Debutante Committee who went the extra mile to ensure that the show was a phenomenal SM-LAC success!  The sorors responsible include the following:

Pamela Butler, Vanessa Davis,  Karen Henderson, Donna King,
Candice Langston, Pula Levermore, Susan McGhee, Nicole Neely,
Ndid Okafor, M. Evette Peters,  Erreka Reed, Denise Revels,
Lorraine Molock Sparks, Shannon Sparks, Renee Thomas,
and Daffenie Ware.

 •  SM-LAC Executive Committee and Executive Board and Chapter who helped to prepare for and/or attended, the Omega Omega Ceremony for SM-LAC Charter Member, Soror Ruth Bailey Smith.
In most cases, sorors literally drove 40+ miles to attend the service.

I was especially touched by their acts of selflessness this week because numerous activities were taking place which required their personal attention.  In other words, I realize that they didn’t have to make the sacrifices or come through…but they did and that is what sisterhood is all about.

Therefore, Red Roses of Praise and Violets of Admiration are extended to the following sorors for being dedicated to our beloved sisterhood:

Diana Witherspoon Bey, Alice Blackburn, Diona Dent, Siddiqa Gibson,
Toni Johnson, Patty McGrew, Cynthia Moran, Dennette Smith, and Deena Swatzie.

Sorors, Red Roses of Praise and Violets of Admiration
are bestowed  upon you all for a job well done!

Sorors, ALL of your efforts are to be commended!

We appreciate you and look forward to the great things
you will continue to do in the future.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our chapter is on the right track and “rolling” in a very positive direction.  While we have been in session for only a little over two months, several of our committees have already organized and implemented successful activities and events.  Sorors are to be commended for working collaboratively to complete tasks and accomplish goals.

It is for this reason that I ask you to join me in bestowing
Red Roses of Praise and Violets of Admiration on the following
sorors and committees that have successfully embraced the vision
and mission of our beloved sorority and chapter with enthusiasm
     and professionalism.

Soror Toni Johnson, First Vice President/Membership Services Chair and Soror Karen Davis, Sisterhood Advance Subcommittee Chair,  Soror Adriane Curry, Sisterhood Advance Co-Chairs, and the SA planning committee, for  helping us to “kick off” the sororal  year in a fun, relaxing, positive manner with the 2008-2009 Sisterhood Advance in Dahlonega, GA.  During the Sisterhood Advance, sorors were provided a unique opportunity to bond and reflect in preparation for the sororal year.
Soror Monica Smith, Chair of the Ritual & Ceremonies Committee and the dedicated sorors on the Ritual & Ceremonies Committee, who have worked diligently to organize and facilitate multiple DID & MIT training opportunities for chapter sorors as we prepared to fulfill the requirements for Membership-InTake.
Soror Deria Whatley, Chair of the Social Action Committee, Soror Shawn Evans Mitchell, Chair of Political Awareness Committee, Soror Jayelynn Peabody, Voter Registration Coordinator, and chapter volunteers for organizing and executing a successful voter registration drive.  Thanks to your efforts, approximately 50 additional citizens were registered to vote before the state deadline.
Soror Rachel Ziegler, Chair of the Debutante Committee and the dependable sorors on the Debutante Committee, for organizing and facilitating a successful Debutante College Tour on October 11-13, 2008.  Your attention to detail and dedication to planning, has helped to solidify our reputation as having the BEST Debutante Program in town.

More than 55 Delta Academy girls participated in the activity which took place on Saturday, October 18, 2008 and required sorors to supervise and closely monitor the girls while on MARTA and the college campus.  Thanks to your commitment, the lives of our impressionable youth were enriched and everyone returned safe and sound.
Soror Stephanie Malone, Chair of the Nominating Committee and the committed members of the Nominating Committee, for managing the intense chapter nomination process with professionalism and sensitivity.  Thanks to your efforts, the chapter remains united and focused after the candidate slating process for the 2008-2009 Minerva Circle election.
Soror Teena Cash Hargrove and the diligent sorors on the Elections Committee, for managing the chapter election process and ensuring that our elections are unbiased and fair. Thanks to your efforts, we have elected candidates to fulfill critical responsibilities on the Minerva Circle in a drama free, sisterly manner.
Soror Ayanna Card, Chair of the Financial Projects Committee and the hard working sorors on the Blaquetoberfest subcommittee, for planning and executing the most successful fall fundraiser ever!  Thanks to your efforts and commitment, we will have substantially more to reallocate to the public service projects, initiatives, and scholarships that we support.
Soror Roberta Walker, Chair of the Economic Development Committee and the results oriented sorors on the Economic Development Committee,  for implementing a timely, relevant homeownership workshop for members of our community on Thursday October 23, 2008.  As the direct result of you efforts, accurate information, resources, and advice was provided to many who have been negatively impacted by the economic crisis in our country.
Soror Deria Whatley, Chair of the Social Action Committee and the focused and empowered Social Action Committee, for organizing a sobering candlelight vigil that honored the memory of Soror Clara Viola Mason-Dwight (murdered by her estranged husband on December 20, 2002), and other victims of domestic violence who live on in the hearts and minds of those who remember and care.  Additionally, thanks to your work to address the pervasive issue of domestic violence in our community, participants also learned about the efforts made by

We appreciate you and look forward to the great things you will continue to do in the future.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our chapter successfully presented 38 Beautiful, Budding Roses to society on Sunday, March 30, 2008.  The presentation of the young ladies described as Radiant, Regal and Refined, occurred at the Gwinnett Center where more than 720 guests assembled for the elegant affair. To be certain, this cotillion will be remembered for years to come because it took place in spite of the March 14th tornado which threatened to derail the event altogether and the step show as well.  The LORD was merciful and shined his favor upon us.

Sorors, we must never forget to "THANK" Him for his Love and Mercy.

While recognizing specific individuals is always challenging, I nevertheless believe that flowers should be given while those we love and appreciate are living.

Therefore, please join me in extending

Red Roses of Praise and African Violets of Admiration
to the dedicated sorors of the Debutante Committee and
       the Financial Projects Committee!

Soror Rachel Zeigler, Executive Chair and the members of the dedicated Debutante Committee for an excellent, "rose” studded evening of elegance.  Thanks to your efforts, the debs, their families and our chapter will enjoy these memories for years to come!
 • Soror Sabrina McCorvey, 2008 All Alumni Step Show Chair and step show committee members who were responsible for organizing and implementing another high quality, profitable step show on March 22, 2008!  Soror McCorvey provided exemplary leadership and management for our largest chapter fundraiser!
S
elect step show committee members to view the complete praise and admiration list.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please know that the month of February and everyday, you are loved
unconditionally by me!  I love you for the sisterly ways that you interact
with each other and for the way that you support our chapter activities
and initiatives.  I love you for the work you render in our community,
always striving for EXCELLENCE.

I, Soror Royce Love-Diagne (President), would like to extend a sisterly bouquet of Red Roses to you and I am requesting that you too join me in bestowing a special bouquet filled with Red Roses of Praise and African Violets of Admiration to several sorors who have gone the extra mile
to make sure that the SM-LAC legacy of excellence continues.

Thus, without further adieu, bouquets and admiration are extended to...

 • Soror Deria Whatley, Chair of the Social Action Committee, and
the hardworking members for organizing and implementing
the effort to share our love with less fortunate families and
the residents of the Tradition Retirement Home during the
Thanksgiving, Christmas, Martin Luther King Holiday
   weekends, and especially this month.
Thanks to your dedication, numerous lives have been enriched.
 • Soror Kimberly Manning for being recognized by the
Metro-Atlanta Pan Hellenic Council for her outstanding work
in the field of quality of life for those in our community.
 • Soror Ayanna Card, Chair of the Founders Day Committee, for
organizing and fulfilling the challenging responsibilities associated
with working with our sister chapters to implement the
   2008 Metro-wide Founders Day Observance on February 2, 2008.
Additionally, appreciation are extended to the SM-LAC sorors who
served on the Founders Day sub-committees as members of the
chorus, hostesses, and the team led by Soror Dennette Smith,
who was responsible for setting up our reclamation table display.
Because of your efforts and attention to detail,
WE held our heads up with chapter pride!
 • Soror Roberta Walker, Chair of the Economic Development
Committee, Soror Annetta Richardson, Soror Alice Blackburn
and the other members of the Economic Development Committee
for hosting an informative, well attended, financial planning
seminar.  The financial information (Delta Homeownership
initiative, credit, etc.) provided by the Chase Manhattan Bank
Representative and others was invaluable.  Moreover, the
information provided by Soror Winifred Sheppard and
Soror Siddiqa Gibson during the Money Wise Kids Seminar
was well received.  Thank you for bringing relevant, timely
information to the members of our community and chapter.
Soror Siddiqa Gibson, Chair of Educational Development, and the
co-chairs, Soror Deborah Toatley and Soror Stacey Brown (Delta
Gems), Soror Deborah Crawford and Soror Amrullah Marks (Delta
Academy DeKalb and Conyers) and the dedicate committee for
working diligently with our most valuable asset, our impressionable
youth by hosting an extremely successful sleepover for 35 GEMS
   on Saturday, February 23, 2008.
The evening began with games
and pizza. It was followed up with a very creative salute to
prominent Delta women. The GEMS made beautiful hand crafted
book marks that will be delivered to a local community
organization. They participated in a very lively, informative
discussion on various age appropriate topics and had a great time
bonding. Special thanks are also extended to Soror Susan McGee
for allowing the committee to use her dance studio for the sleep
   over.
Because of your efforts, mentoring, teaching, and
empowering the girls and teens entrusted to our care, our youth
are learning how to make better decisions and cultivate positive
   self esteem.

  • Soror Rachel Zeigler, Chair of the Debutante Committee, and
her dedicated members of the Debutante Committee for
implementing the program that has consistently prepared young
ladies for success in college and life.  We extended praises and
admiration for the excellent work that the committee performed
in supervising our debutantes and escorts during this year's
   debutante college tour.
 • Our Excecutive Committee for working tirelessly to maintain the
high standards of exellence that we have established for our
chapter.  Sometimes the work may seems thankless but
I appreciate ALL of your efforts and encourage you to stay the
course.  Delta is worth it and...JOY shall come in the morning!
